Arsenal's Danny Welbeck suffers leg injury against Sporting

LONDON -- Danny Welbeck was carried off on a stretcher after suffering a potentially serious lower-leg injury during Arsenal's Europa League game against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday. Welbeck collapsed in pain after a collision in the Sporting penalty area 25 minutes into the game at the Emirates and immediately waved for medical attention as he writhed on the ground. The medical staff then administered oxygen and applied a brace on his right leg before he was taken off on a stretcher.  Still images of the incident showed Welbeck's right ankle caught underneath him in an awkward position as his body went to ground.
