Manchester City news: Guardiola’s side can set a new record for consecutive top flight wins

A win for Manchester City against rivals Manchester United on Sunday will not only put them 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, it will also mean they set a new record for successive wins in a top flight season. Currently, City have won 13 successive league matches – a joint-record within a single campaign, alongside Chelsea (2016/17), Arsenal (2001/02), Preston and Sunderland (both 1891/92). The Gunners, though, have actually recorded an English top-flight league record of 14 consecutive victories, which spanned two seasons between February and August 2002.
