Spurs eager to beat Arsenal to defensive leader

Tottenham are plotting a summer move to beat bitter north London rivals Arsenal to the signature of £10m-rated Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports from The Express. The Dutchman has been one of Scottish football’s leading lights since joining the Glasgow giants from Groningen in 2013, with his composed displays at the heart of Bhoys’ backline earning much praise. Arsenal are one of a few sides to have been credited with an interest in the player – they chased him during January – but now Spurs have emerged as candidates to lure him across the border to England.
