World Cup Watch: Roord scores last-gasp winner
Three of our stars were in international action on Tuesday. Read on to find out how they fared. A last-minute winner from Jill Roord ensured the Netherlands beat New Zealand 1-0 in their opening World Cup fixture. While Sarina Wiegman’s side dominated possession, it was New Zealand who created the game’s finest chances, with former Gunner Sari van Veenendaal forced into a number of difficult saves. But thanks to the introduction of our summer signing, Roord, in the 76th minute, the Netherlands were able to seal all three points. Lineth Beerensteyn knocked the ball down at the far post following a lofted delivery, and Roord was the first to react, heading home from close range. ...
