Chelsea beaten by Arsenal in race to sign Declan Rice transfer alternative

Having missed out on West Ham star Declan Rice in the summer, Chelsea remain in the hunt for a new defensive midfielder.  The Blues spent lavishly last summer window in the wake of their transfer ban being lifted, with Frank Lampard’s side splashing more than £200million in transfer fees - including their joint record-fee for £72million pound man Kai Havertz.  Revitalising the core of the side with a new central defender in Thiago Silva, new midfielders in Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and a new striker in Timo Werner, Chelsea find themselves just two points off top-spot.
