Nicolas Pepe steps up in Aubameyang’s absence after Arsenal promise

Nicolas Pepe made a New Year’s resolution to score more goals. Better late than never. Arsenal’s £72m man inspired their first comeback win in the league since July by hitting the target for the first time since December 19. He equalised after Stuart Armstrong struck first for Southampton, with further strikes from Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette sealing a 3-1 victory. That allowed the Gunners, still without skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for “personal reasons”, to climb to eight place, five points off the Premier League top four.
