Arsenal want Man City's Ilkay Gundogan - but might not play him as a central midfielder

Ilkay Gundogan could end up at Arsenal after being told he can leave Manchester City this summer - and he could reignite his Premier League career by playing in an entirely different position. The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who was Pep Guardiola's first signing at the Etihad back in 2016, has shown a keen eye for goal in the past - notably scoring 17 goals across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign. That record, coupled with Arsenal's dire need for a new striker following the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and pending departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, has led to a theory over their reported interest.
