Arsenal boost as defensive midfield target's La Liga transfer breaks down

We have previously been linked with a move for PSG's defensive midfield veteran Thiago Motta (via the Express), but unfortunately looked set to miss out. We may well be back in the hunt for his signature however, with Spanish publication Marca claiming his touted move to Atletico Madrid has broken down. We are badly in need of reinforcements in defensive midfield, with Francis Coquelin currently our only viable option. The Frenchman has arguably proven himself worthy of being first choice, but we have to ensure we have an adequate backup option in case of injury or loss of form.
