Nelson: Reid contract a real statement

Ryan Nelsen believes West Ham have made a 'real statement' in persuading Winston Reid to sign a six-and-a-half-year deal. Reid made a long-term commitment to the club on Thursday at a time when London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal were reported to be showing an interest in the defender. And former QPR centre-back Nelsen - who, like Reid, was born in New Zealand - reckons the deal is good news for the player and the club.
