Wenger reveals how stats helped source ‘real defender' Gabriel

Arsene Wenger has said that although scouting a player and seeing him play remains the most important part of the decision making process, Arsenal use data provided by the analytics company the club bought in 2012 as part of the process. Specific qualities in certain players can be found via the StatDNA database, and the Frenchman revealed that a combination of this process and regular scouting helped him make up his mind about the 24 year old Brazilian.
