On this day in History [5 April]: Gunners beat Liverpool 2-1 to lift Littlewoods Cup.

On this day in 1987, Charlie Nicholas scored a brace to help Arsenal defeat rivals Liverpool 2-1; thereby winning the Littlewoods Cup. Liverpool swung the first punch when Ian Rush scored the opener from close range halfway through the first half. Despite the scare, Arsenal were able to maintain composure which materialized into the equalizer scored by Charlie only seven minutes later. Champagne Charlie – as was his nickname – fired in his second of the day to break the deadlock in the dying moments of the game.
