Dermot Gallagher: 'Arsenal deserved penalty at Burnley'

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that the referee was within his rights to give Arsenal a penalty against Burnley for a push on Aaron Ramsey.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has claimed that Arsenal deserved to win a last-minute penalty against Burnley.

During added-on time in Sunday's Premier League clash at Turf Moor, Aaron Ramsey went to ground inside the penalty area after being pushed by James Tarkowski, with Alexis Sanchez stepping up to convert the resulting spot kick to give the Gunners a 1-0 win.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has hit out at the decision, but Gallagher has agreed with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger by questioning why Tarkowski had put his hands on the midfielder inside the area.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I think the key thing here is that once you put two hands on someone's back and push, it's not like a body contact.

"You see challenges in the box where bodies come together. Here, he has put his hands into his back and pushed. In that case, the referee is duty-bound to give a penalty."

The goal led to Arsenal moving up to fourth place in the league standings.
