Kolo Toure remembers the moment like it was yesterday.
The defender was lining up in Arsène Wenger’s starting XI against Tottenham Hotspur as we had the opportunity to win the Premier League at White Hart Lane back in 2004.
We took an early lead through Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires and, although Spurs would level through Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Keane, a point was enough to ensure we would be crowned champions at our north London rivals’ home for the second time in just 33 years.
“It was a fantastic day, fantastic,” Toure told Arsenal Player. “I remember that it was tight, a tough game and a draw at the end. But we were playing better at the end and we should have won it.
“At the end, we weren’t really happy with the performance we’d given. But we knew we were champions - and that showed the mentality of this team. We wanted to win every game. Because the performance wasn’t great, we weren’t happy.
“But then suddenly we saw Thierry Henry start to celebrate and we all joined in. It was special to win it in this stadium. Arsenal against Tottenham is always a tough game but we were so dominant and we were like brothers. We were a family and for me that’s something unbelievable, becoming so close that you’re like brothers.”
