4 players that could leave Arsenal in 2019

Unai Emery's regime has begun much like Arsene Wenger's ended. Arsenal remain ferocious in attack however they remain poor defensively. With the smallest transfer budget out of the Premier League's top six, players need to be sold before purchases are made. Here are the players that will likely be sacrificed during the next two transfer windows.

Nacho Monreal

Nacho Monreal has forged himself a fantastic career at Arsenal. After an initial shaky start in 2013, Monreal eventually displaced Kieran Gibbs and established himself as one of Arsene Wenger's first names on the teamsheet.

Despite this Unai Emery seems to prefer the much younger Sead Kolasinac and only an unfortunate 8-week injury for the player restored Monreal to the starting lineup. Monreal himself turns 33 early next year and he has already been linked with a move away from the club. It is likely that upon Kolasinac's return, Monreal will be limited to outings in the Europa League before his inevitable departure back to his home country.

Carl Jenkinson

Incredibly Carl Jenkinson remains an Arsenal player. Now one of the longest-serving players in the squad, Jenkinson has appeared just five times for Arsenal over the last four years. The boyhood Arsenal fan has managed a total of just 62 appearances for the club in his seven years of service.

At just 26 years of age, Jenkinson can still have a successful career but it is obvious that this will not be with Arsenal. Any passage to the team is blocked by Hector Bellerin, who is younger and established as the clear first choice right back. Rumours have linked the player with another loan move however it seems at this point that the player moving on permanently would be beneficial for all parties involved.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny has been a curious case at Arsenal. Bought in initially as a squad player, Elneny showed great energy in the middle of the park despite not contributing heavily in terms of goal and assists. Last season his stock seemed to rise after the club's decision to sell his main competition in Francis Coquelin. This paved the way for Elneny to have a continued run in the team and was especially instrumental in their run to the Europa League Semi-Finals.

The summer additions of Guendouzi and Torreira look to have relegated the Egyptian to exclusively League Cup and Europa League appearances. At the age of 26, the energetic midfielder will likely ask to leave if his situation has not improved in January. Interest is likely to be high and Marseille have already expressed interest in signing the midfielder.

Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez was a player that Arsene Wenger rated extremely highly. Still just 26 years of age, Martinez has his peak years ahead of him. Despite this, the moment Wenger left seemed to end any hope of Martinez breaking into the first team. Martinez has stated that he previously tried to leave Arsenal but Wenger promised him the future number one shirt in order to convince him to stay.

During an unsuccessful loan spell at Getafe last season, he made just five appearances. A total of 13 for Arsenal over a six-season period coupled with sporadic loans has left the keeper with just 57 professional career appearances. The signing of Leno has further blocked his route to the Arsenal first team and he has yet to even make a Premier League appearance.

A permanent move away from the Emirates looks like the only answer as this will allow the keeper to rebuild his career. Don't be surprised however if he is once again loaned out to either a Championship or Spanish club.
