Arsenal v Birmingham City: The Brief

van de Donk

We have opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup on Wednesday when we face Birmingham City at Meadow Park.

THE STORY SO FAR

We’ve made a perfect start to the competition so far with an impressive four wins from four group-stage outings.

We kicked off our campaign with a 3-1 win over West Ham, with Katie McCabe bagging a double, before thrashing Lewes Ladies 9-0. Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema both scored hat-tricks on the day.

Five academy products then went on to feature in our 5-0 win over Charlton, before 16-year-old Ruby Grant scored her first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Millwall.

Only Chelsea (25) have scored more goals than us (20) over the course of the competition so far.

THE OPPOSITION

Birmingham City will head into Wednesday’s fixture full of confidence having finished second in Group A, just three points behind group leaders Manchester City.

They slipped to defeat on penalties in their last fixture against Bristol City, but prior to that they recorded three consecutive wins over Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Leicester City, scoring 10 goals without concession.

Anne-Katrin Berger delivered a stunning goalkeeping performance the last time we faced the Blues - but the Germany international has since moved to Chelsea.

ONE TO WATCH

Katie McCabe has scored six goals over the course of the season so far, five of which came in the Continental League Cup.

The Ireland international struck twice against the Hammers on the opening day of the season, before scoring once against Lewes and twice against Charlton.
