Internationals: Pepe scores for Ivory Coast

Nicolas Pepe

Five of our first-team stars were in action for their countries over the weekend. Scroll down to find out how they got on:

Nicolas Pepe scored in Ivory Coast's 3-1 friendly win over DR Congo in Amiens. Wilfried Kanon gave the Elephants an early lead, before Pepe turned home Wilfried Zaha's cross for his fifth international goal on the stroke of half-time. Chadrac Akolo pulled one back but Wilfried Zaha secured the win in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Lucas Torreira was also in international friendly action, playing the full 90 minutes in midfield to help Uruguay beat Peru 1-0 in Montevideo. Brian Rodriguez's 17th-minute strike was enough to guarantee victory for the hosts.

Torreira will be hoping to be in action again in the early hours of Wednesday morning, when the two sides meet again (2.30am UK time).

Sead Kolasinac played the full 90 minutes on the left of a back four as Bosnia & Herzegovina beat Finland 4-1 in Euro 2020 qualification. Miralem Pjanic struck twice while Izet Hajrovic and Armin Hodzic were also on target during the rout in Zenica.

The result pulls fourth-placed Bosnia & Herzegovina within two points of second-placed Finland in Group J, ahead of Tuesday's clash with Greece (7.45pm).

Also in Euro 2020 qualifying, Granit Xhaka's Switzerland lost to a late goal against Denmark in Copenhagen. Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was in unbeatable form, keeping out our midfielder's 25-yard strike with a fingertip save before Yussuf Poulsen ran onto Christian Eriksen's pass to secure a dramatic win.

Switzerland are now four points adrift of second-placed Denmark but do have a game in hand, against Group D leaders Republic of Ireland on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Dani Ceballos played 64 minutes as Spain were held to a shock Euro 2020 qualifying draw by Norway in Oslo. La Roja were flying high on the back of seven consecutive victories but after Saul had given them the lead, Josh King converted from the spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time to end Spain's winning run.

Robert Moreno's side remain unbeaten at the top of Group F, and face second-placed Sweden on Tuesday (7.45pm). There are just five points between the two nations.

And finally, Bernd Leno and Emi Martinez were unused substitutes in Germany's 3-0 win over Estonia in Tallinn and Argentina's 6-1 win against Ecuador in Elche, respectively.
