Jose Mourinho 'personally calls Sergio Reguilon in attempt to hijack deal'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho reportedly calls Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon personally in an attempt to hijack his proposed move to Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly personally called Sergio Reguilon in an attempt to beat his old side Manchester United to the Real Madrid left-back.

The 23-year-old impressed out on loan at Sevilla last season and was a key figure as Julen Lopetegui's side triumphed in the Europa League.

Reguilon has been the subject of interest from multiple Premier League clubs this summer, with United thought to hold the advantage, but OkDiario reports that Mourinho has approached the player directly to explain why he should pick Spurs instead.

The publication claims that the Portuguese followed Reguilon's progress closely in 2019-20 and "sees him as a more than valid player to reinforce" at left-back, where he would likely usurp Ben Davies as first choice.

Although United are thought to have already submitted a £27m bid for the Spaniard, Madrid are said to have preference for sending him out on loan this season rather than sanctioning a permanent exit.

Arsenal and Juventus have also been credited with an interest.
