Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirms that Granit Xhaka is "doing well" after contracting coronavirus during the international break.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Granit Xhaka is "doing well" after contracting coronavirus during the international break.

The Switzerland captain was confirmed to have tested positive earlier this month, and the Swiss FA also revealed that he turned down the opportunity to have the COVID-19 vaccine.

Xhaka would have been absent for Saturday's game against Norwich City anyway due to suspension, but Arteta has now provided an update on the midfielder's health.

Speaking to the press ahead of the visit of Norwich, Arteta said: "He's doing well. He's still in his country. He needs to stay there until Saturday, I believe. As soon as he's okay to travel he'll be here with us."

Xhaka will serve the first of a three-game ban this weekend after a rash challenge on Joao Cancelo saw him brandished from the field of play against Manchester City.

The Gunners boss otherwise confirmed that "almost everyone" should be available after Thomas Partey, Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes returned to full training earlier in the week.
