The Premier League is the richest football league in the world, and arguably the most competitive too.

That explains why some of the best players in the game's history have graced the Premier League over the years. The same trend holds true for the current crop of players plying their trade in the competition too.

Most Premier League players earn high wages, especially ones playing in the competition's traditional 'top six' clubs. However, there are a few players who do not earn as much as some of their other top-six colleagues.

On that note, here's a look at the five lowest earners in the Premier League's top six clubs:

#5 Shola Shoretire (Manchester United) — £8000 per week

Shola Shoretire is one of Manchester United's most exciting young prospects. The 17-year-old recently signed his first professional contract in March this year.

Earlier this year, he made his first-team debut in the Premier League in a 3-1 win against Newcastle United. That made him the second-youngest player in the Premier League era to play for the Red Devils.

The young forward also made his European debut against Real Sociedad four days later, but is yet to make his season debut in 2021-22.

#4 Liam Delap (Manchester City) — £8000 per week

Liam Delap is one of the youngest players in the Manchester City squad. The Englishman made a goalscoring debut for Pep Guardiola's side in the EFL Cup last season.

Delap failed to repeat the trick on his Premier League debut, however, as City slumped to a heavy 5-2 defeat against Leicester City at home. Nevertheless, the Cityzens recovered to win their third Premier League title in four seasons. Delap also made an appearance in the FA Cup last campaign.

The 18-year-old striker is yet to make an appearance this sseason as he has been plagued by injuries since City's pre-season.

#3 Neco Williams (Liverpool) — £9000 per week

Neco Williams has been a fringe player at Premier League giants Liverpool. Despite showing promise whenever called upon, the 20-year-old has failed to break into Jurgen Klopp's star-studded first team.

The right-back has made close to 30 appearances across competitions for The Reds since debuting in 2019-20.

For obvious reasons, the versatile Williams is behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the club's pecking order. However, the 20-year-old is a quality squad option, and could blossom into a world-class player with more game time.

#2 Nuno Tavares (Arsenal) — £27000 per week

Nuno Tavares arrived at Arsenal this summer after a promising stint at Portuguese giants Benfica.

The 20-year-old left-back has already made 11 appearances for the Gunners this season. However, the young Portuguese made a high-profile error in the 4-0 defeat at Liverpool last weekend. He gifted the ball to Diogo Jota following a poor back pass, and the Portuguese forward duly obliged with a well-taken goal.

Tavares remains a good long-term prospect for a rebuilding Arsenal team. He remains second choice behind Kieran Tierney in the left-back role, and the Scotsman's imminent return means he is unlikely to start against Newcastle United this week.

#1 Marcus Bettinelli (Chelsea) — £35000 per week

Marcus Bettinelli arrived at current Premier League leaders Chelsea from Middlesbrough this summer.

He made his Premier League debut for Fulham in 2018-19, playing seven games that season. However, Bettinelli is not expected to add to that tally at Chelsea, as he is behind Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga in the pecking order.

As per his contract, Bettinelli is set to earn £35,000 per week at the club, making him the lowest-paid player in the Chelsea squad.
