Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 Arsenal: Spurs Player Ratings as Gunners stymie late comeback attempt | Premier League 2023-24

Arsenal survived a late scare from Tottenham Hotspur to maintain their spot at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-2 win on Sunday, April 28.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made three changes from the side that lost 4-0 to Newcastle a fortnight ago. Ben Davies, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Dejan Kulusevski all returned to the lineup as they looked to close in on a top-four spot.

The Gunners, meanwhile, stuck to the same lineup that secured a dominant 5-0 win over Chelsea.

It was a dominant start for the visitors as they opened the scoring through a Hojbjerg own goal in the 15th minute. Saka's dangerous delivery into the box from a corner caused all sorts of confusion as the Dane ended up heading it into his own net.

They doubled their tally in the 27th minute through a rapid counter-attack that saw Kai Havertz pick Saka out and the winger finished well to make it 2-0.

It grew from bad to worse for the hosts as Havertz himself got on the scoresheet in the 38th minute. The German was at the right place to head home a great cross from Declan Rice.

It looked like Arsenal would close the game out comfortably until Spurs got back into it through a goal from Cristian Romero in the 64th minute. An error from David Raya saw the ball fall straight to the Argentinian defender, who controlled it well before firing home to pull one back.

It made for a nervy last few minutes as Spurs got a penalty in the 85th minute. Son Heung-min converted from the spot after Rice fouled Davies in the box.

However, the visitors held on for a massive win in the title race, retaining the top spot in the process. Here are the Tottenham player ratings:

Guglielmo Vicario - 5/10

He struggled to deal with corners and balls into the box, conceding twice from such situations.

Pedro Porro - 5.5/10

The Portuguese full-back was not at his usual attacking best, failing to contribute much going forward.

Cristian Romero - 7/10

Romero had two big chances, including hitting the post once. Eventually, he got on the scoresheet with a sharp effort.

Micky van de Ven - 6/10

Van de Ven thought he had levelled proceedings early on after finding the back of the net, but the goal was chalked off for offside.

Ben Davies - 5/10

With first-choice Destiny Udogie ruled out for the remainder of the season, Davies had the task of keeping Saka quiet. He did not fare well as the right winger bagged a goal.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 5/10

A difficult day out for the midfielder who was removed at half-time.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 5/10

He was all out of sorts in the opening goal that ended up with him heading the ball into his own net. Apart from that, he struggled to make a difference in midfield.

Dejan Kulusevski - 6/10

It was an energetic performance from the winger, but it did not produce fruitful results.

James Maddison - 5.5/10

Maddison struggled to have an impact on the game, finishing with just one chance created and six passes into the final third.

Timo Werner - 5/10

Barely made an impact in his 30 minutes of action before being taken off with an injury.

Heung-min Son - 6.5/10

It was mostly a quiet night out for the South Korean forward, but he stepped up and showed composure to convert a late penalty to put pressure on the Gunners.

Brennan Johnson - 6/10

Johnson also struggled to make a difference after replacing Werner early on.

Pape Matar Sarr - 6/10

Put in a solid performance after coming on for Bentancur at half-time.

Richarlison - 6.5/10

He was involved a lot in the proceedings in his short cameo, but failed to make a contribution.

Yves Bissouma - 6.5/10

He provided a more attacking profile than Hojbjerg, the player he replaced, but was kept silent as well.

Giovani Lo Celso - N/A

He came on too late and did not play enough minutes to merit a rating.
