Per Mertesacker: 'I ignored Troy Deeney comments'

Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker has said that he ignored Watford captain Troy Deeney's comments after the Gunners' 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday night. The German defender had put his side ahead in the first half, only for Deeney to equalise from the spot before Tom Cleverley handed the hosts all three points with a last-gasp winner. After the final whistle, Deeney launched a scathing attack on Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger, accusing the North Londoners of lacking "cojones" as the Hornets leapfrogged them in the table.
