The fact that Arsenal’s highest-ever paid player, who only signed a new deal back in January, is already having to fight for his place in the team should be a real cause for concern. Following a torrid World Cup campaign with Germany, and a retirement from international football which clearly indicated that the playmaker was having a tough time, it’s hardly surprising that he’s returned to the Emirates Stadium out of sorts.  How Unai Emery handles this situation with his star man will be one of the first great tests of his reign in North London.  The playmaker ought to be afforded the opportunity to play through his poor form.
