Arsenal’s Emiliano Martinez ‘agrees’ four-year £60k-a-week Aston Villa deal

Emiliano Martinez could leave Arsenal for Premier League rivals Aston Villa. The 28-year-old played a key role for Mikel Arteta following Bernd Leno’s serious ligament injury last season, having grown tired of playing a supporting role at the Emirates. The former Argentina youth international conceded only 24 goals across his 23 appearances in 2019/20, keeping nine clean sheets as Arsenal went on to beat Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup. Those performances gave Martinez the confidence to request some assurances from Arteta surrounding his place in the team following the return to fitness of Leno, but it is reported that he didn’t get the response he wanted.
