Tommy Docherty dead: The former Man Utd manager has died at the age of 92 (Image: GETTY) Tommy Docherty has died at the age of 92 following a long illness. Docherty managed 13 clubs in his managerial career between 1961 and 1988, as well as the Scotland national team. He was the Manchester United manager between 1972 and 1977, overseeing the period where the Red Devils were relegated from the top flight before being promoted at the first time of asking.
