Giroud explains how close he came to joining Everton

Olivier Giroud admits he was 'very close' to leaving Arsenal to join Everton this summer. Giroud was one of Everton's main striker targets in the last transfer window, with the Toffees thought to be closing in on the Frenchman. Regular first-team football could be offered on Merseyside as opposed to Giroud's current role at Arsenal, where he is used most often as a substitute behind Alexandre Lacazette. The 31-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game this season, yet insists he made 'the best choice' by staying in north London.
