Premier League chairman confirms he will step down following Newcastle takeover

The Premier League are on the lookout for another new chairman after Gary Hoffman announced that he will leave the post at the end of January following stern criticism from member clubs. The move comes after Hoffman faced a backlash for his handling of the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle, which went through in October. Despite taking over in the role just 18 months ago, the approval of the new owners at St James' Park led to much speculation over the future of the chair this week.
